Iedereen heeft weleens van Frankenstein gehoord, weet op zijn minst dat dit boek over het monster gaat, heeft er weleens een film over gezien of is het verhaal op een andere manier tegengekomen. Ik had het boek nog niet eerder gelezen en probeerde er zo blanco mogelijk in te stappen, zodat ik het verhaal kon verkennen zoals ik dat bij elk boek probeer te doen: met zo min mogelijk voorkennis. Koos Verkaik behoorde tot die groep, totdat Paul van Leeuwenkamp hem in een uitgebreid artikel op dit platform opnieuw een gezicht gaf.
